Pescara Airport or Abruzzo International Airport is situated four kilometres from the town of Pescara. There are no direct flights from Ireland with getting a connecting flight at Stansted Airport with Ryanair probably one of the better options.
Ryanair look set to make the airport one of their hubs with three new Italian flights scheduled to begin in early July. Passengers will be able to get direct flights from Pescara to Bergamo, Treviso and Cagliari. The airport is also used as a hub by Italia Airlines.
Play it safe and book car rental at Pescara Airport well in advance so has to secure your preferred model at a reasonable price. You can get from the airport to town in about ten minutes.
There is a bus run by GTM which costs just ninety cent for a one way trip. There is also the option of a taxi which will set you back around fifteen euro. Rome can be reached in just two hours by hire car from the airport.
Passenger numbers at Pescara Airport have rose steadily over the years and with airlines such as Ryanair adding more routes it is a trend which certainly looks set to continue. In 1996 the airport catered for almost seventy two thousand passengers.
By the year 2000 this figure had rose to one hundred and fourteen thousand and by 2004 this figure had more than tripled reaching three hundred and thirty four thousand. Last year the airport broke the four hundred thousand passenger barrier for the first time.
